From A Daily Wage Labourer To Successful Paratha Brand Owner: Journey Of Diganta Das

Life often takes unexpected turns, and for Diganta Das, the journey from being a struggling daily wage laborer to a successful paratha brand owner has been short of remarkable. 

Today he stands proudly as the owner of DFF (Daily Fresh Food), a ready-to-eat paratha venture in the beautiful state of Assam. 

Diganta’s story begins in Arunachal Pradesh, where he started working as a daily wage laborer to support his family in the face of financial adversity. Determined to improve their circumstances, he later moved to Meghalaya to work in the coal mines. However, destiny had more surprises in store for him. 

His path led him to Assam’s Udalguri district, where he joined a construction company as a storekeeper. Subsequently, he ventured into the world of private security, finding employment primarily in the hospitality industry. 

It was during this time that Diganta’s life took a different turn as he secured a job in a food manufacturing unit in Mangalore as a mixing man, through this opportunity he was exposed to the food production industry and his skills propelled him to the position of paratha maker. 

Life seemed to be on an upward trajectory for Diganta as a high-voltage electric cable accident left him paralyzed which took him four years to recover. 

The Business Idea 

A year before the Covid-19 outbreak Diganta helped his close friend by handling operations for his paratha making business. With his dedication and efforts he built a strong customer base in Andhra Pradesh. As his heart belonged to his hometown, he saw an opportunity to establish a packaged paratha business there.

DFF parathas are based on the famous Malabar parotta from Kerala. Diganta and his employees prepare up to 1,400 parathas every day. The parottas are partially fried and the packaging provides instructions for sautéing them with butter, ghee, or oil. After following the method, the parotta should be gently flapped by hand to reveal its delightful layers.

Diganta believes that the youth in the Northeast has immense potential and opportunities in their region and encourages them to join him in his venture. 

In a world that often seems daunting and unpredictable, Diganta Das serves as an example of perseverance and passion. His remarkable journey from being a daily-wage laborer, a cook, a security guard, and a coal mine worker to becoming a successful entrepreneur is a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work. His story serves as a shining example of how determination, coupled with the right opportunities and support, can lead to remarkable achievements.
